Deaf Outreach and
Interpreting Services
DNEC is providing interpreting services to New London County. Our interpreters are certified and registered with the state of CT. To request an interpreter email interpreter@dnec.org.
Deaf Outreach
DNEC has staff fluent in ASL to help Deaf individuals with advocacy issues. We translate written materials, provide advocacy, life skills training and information and referral services.
Organizational ASL Classes and Deaf Awareness Training
Deaf individuals can experience obstacles when communicating with staff who may not be aware of the access needs of the Deaf community. DNEC is providing an hour-long workshop and a nine-week ASL class. These classes will help you understand Deaf culture, history, language deprivation, social deprivation, mental-health issues, and basic communication, and will help you develop strategies for staff to improve their interactions with Deaf consumers. These classes can be customized to suit your agencies' needs. The awareness workshop can be taken seperately. For more information, contact Dani Guy.
American Sign Language Classes
ASL classes run throughout the year. We have classes here at the office and in the community. Contact Dani Guy for more information. You can also register for the class through here.
Monthly Deaf Focus Group
Deaf Focus group meets at the DNEC office monthly. Every month is a different presenter. To be added to the mailing list contact Dani Guy.
